Annual Dinner & Trophy Presentation
Our season ending Dinner & Trophy Presentation was held on Saturday April 28th at the Workers and everyone had a great night. In all about 90 people attend the night, more than double what we had last year and just shows that the STEBA is getting back to where it was years ago. The meal was great and our appreciation goes to Marc Bingham and his staff for this, also to Sammy Thurgood for all the work he put into making this a great night on behalf of the Hobart Workers Club and to our Treasurer Les Allie for all his hard work on the night. This year we have seen the STEBA move forward as an association with two very competitive rosters with Div 1 closer than it has been in many years, our Div 2 roster had nine teams in it allowing us to split it in two at the end of the year to have a Div 2 & Div 3 finals series, giving all teams in this roster the chance to play in a finals series. A special thanks to all our sponsors all of which you will find on this website without their support it would be a lot harder running our association. We would also like to congratulate all the new teams that joined the STEBA this year, you have really helped in lifting the association and hope you enjoyed your first season. Finally to all our members thanks for supporting the STEBA you really have made this year a great season. Photo's from the night will be uploaded as soon as I get them, hope you enjoyed the year - keep an eye here for news of the Winter Super 555's roster.
2012 STEBA Grand Finals
The culmination to a great season saw the STEBA Grand Finals played on a Saturday night at the Hobart Workers Club for the first time, the change saw a great atmosphere and some great 8 ball played. In Div 1 the favorites the HWC Niners defeated the Marquis Devils to claim back to back premierships and their 3rd in four (4) years. The Devils proved early on that they were going to be hard to beat by leading through the early stages of the final and toward the end of the third set the score was 11-8 and they were in a great position to go 13-8 up but faltered and the Niners got it back to 12-12 and then finished it of in the last seat. The Gary Self MVP was won by young cueist Alex Pace who had an outstanding final and also potted the winning black. In Div 2 The minor premiers the Claremont RSL Tigers were pushed all the way by the AIC Zebra's with the match being drawn at the end of the regular 24 frames. The 5 match playoff saw the Tigers run out deserving Premiers winning the play-off 3-1. In Div 3 the Valern Vipers defeated the HWC Maroons to win their first premiership.

Both preliminary finals continued the form guide of all the finals so far. In A Division the game between the New Norfolk RSL Cannons and the Marquis Devils saw the Devils come from behind to get a draw with the Cannons at the end of 32 frames and to send the match into a seven (7) frame play-off, which saw the Devils come out on top of the NN RSL Cannons 4 - 2 and set up a rematch of the 2nd Semi Final against the HWC Niners. The HWC Niners will go into the game as deserved favorites but the Devils proved they are more than capable of pushing them all the way and a great Grand Final is in the making. In the 1st Semi, the New Norfolk RSL Cannons were in front for most of the night but the Waggon & Horses hung in there and in the last match of the regular game Mel Appleby got up to give the Waggon a draw and to send the match into a seven frame playoff. The RSL won this 4 - 2 and the on night 20-18 to set up a rematch with the Devils. In B Division the clash of the two Claremont RSL teams the Tigers & Devils saw the Tigers come out on top and move straight into the Grand Final where they will play the winner of the Devils & the AIC Zebra's next Tuesday night. Finals Series About To Commence
After what has been a great season the finals series is about to commence, with the A Division roster coming down to the last week to decide all ladder positions. This has been the closest season for a very long time, with up to five (5) different scenario's capable of happening depending on the results of the last roster match. The HWC Niners finished the roster by grabbing the minor premiership from the Marquis Devils in the last game of the roster, after a shaky start to the year the Niners just kept on getting better every week showing why they were the premiership favorites before the season began. The HWC Gold scrapped into the finals by one (1) frame from the unlucky Ferntree Bennies and will play the dangerous Waggon & Horses in the Elimination Final. The New Norfolk RSL Cannons drew with the Ferntree Falcons this result cost them 2nd spot and a home Qualifying Final against the Marquis Devils. Lets hope we get a great finals series.
