On Saturday 25th June the Southern Qualifiers for the Open team concluded. The Southern region received ten (10) spots in the last 24 players to contest for a place in this year's State Open Team. Anthony Adams has already gained a spot in this years State Team as State Champion by winning the State Open Singles earlier this year. This year we had fifteen (15) players enter and at the end of three days of competition the final ten (10) were in order
Marcus Jackson, Sam Thurgood, Justin Van Diepen, Chris Forsyth, Luke Webb, Dallas Nichols, Johnny Lennard, Andrew Triffitt , Leigh Bennett and Marcus Watt.
The State body increased the number of players from the South eligible to qualify from nine to ten players which means Marcus Watt has been included.
The first round of the Southern Qualifiers for this years State Open Team have been held and the second round will be held over the weekend of June 25th & 26th. The Southern region will have nine (9) qualifiers out of the fifteen (15) entrants to go through to the final weekend of twenty four (24) players who will be competing for the ten (10) places in this years State Team. The full standings at the end of the first weekend of both the Southern & Northern Qualifiers can be found by using the link listed below
Eightball Tasmania held this years Association ‘B’ Grade Teams Event over the June long weekend at the Launceston Workers Club. The event was won by the team from the Nothern Tasmanian Eightball Association who defeated the southern team from the Hobart Eightball Association. The Hobart Association are to be congratulated on the effort that they put in as it is the first time a team from this association has been able to put a team into a Eightball Tasmania event, and to finish equal top after the round robin games and then be the first team into the final was a huge effort. The team from Southern Tas were knocked out by the eventual winners in the preliminary final. With six teams competing this year it would hoped that next year we will see an increase in the number of teams participating and that this event and it will just keep getting bigger every year.

Over the weekend EightBall Tasmania conducted the 2011 State Open Singles Championship at the Launceston Workers Club. This event was won by the HWC Shooter's Anthony Adams who defeated the HWC Niner's Marcus Jackson 6 - 3 in the Final. Anthony defeated Shooter's teammate Chris Forsyth 5 - 1 in his Semi Final, while Marcus defeated another Shooter's player Ricky Lee 5 - 4 in the other Semi Final. The State Open Title adds to Anthony's bulging list of titles including numerous Tasmanian Under Age Championships and of course his 2009 Australian Under 18 Singles Championship. In winning the State title Anthony now has direct entry into this years State Team and he will be a seeded player in this years Australian Singles Championships that will be held in NSW. Congratulations to both Anthony & Marcus on a great preformance.
Congratulations to David Lee on defending the State Calcutta that he won last year by winning this years State Calcutta. This year was a family affair with David defeating his brother Ricky Lee in the final 5 - 4, special mention must go to Ricky who beat current World 8 Ball Champion Michael Hill from the UK, who is currently touring the State with some exhibition shows, Ricky defeated Mick twice in the double elimination format, a great effort by Ricky.
In all 27 people played in the event which was our highest number of entries in recent years and those present were treated to some high quality games, not only by Mick Hill but also the Lee boys (Some video footage will be uploaded to the Eightball Tasmania Facebook page).
Thanks to all players who particiapted, John Saggers and the Launceston Workers Club and thanks to Michael Hill who was presented with a small plaque from Eightball Tasmania, Northern Eightball Tasmania and Southern Eightball Tasmania on his visit to Tasmania
Played at the Launceston Workers Club on March 19th & 20th the Foreshore Breakers found itself in third position on the ladder after the round robin and having to face the favourites the HWC Niners in the preliminary final with the winner advancing to the final to play the top of the ladder team, the undefeated Alexander Red, of Devonport.
The preliminary final match went down to the wire with scores at 9-9 going into the last set. The Foreshore team managed to win 13-11 with veteran Geoff Youd winning a great tactical match against Andrew Triffitt in the second last frame.
The final proved just as close with the Devonport team winning 4-2 in the last set to salvage a draw at 12-all. This resulted in both teams putting up five players each in a race to three, unfortunately for Alexander Red the strength of the Foreshore team saw it wrap up the playoff 3-0 with Chris Forsyth, Ricky Lee and Breakers captain Jeremy McGuire all winning their games to deny Devonport a State Team title after being runner-up on four previous occasions. It was a great weekend and with eight (8) teams competing from five (5) different associations it was good to see that this important event on the State Calender is getting back to where it was a few years ago.
